DEKKO COMICS - Workshops for Young People

Our next course for Dekko Workshops begins on 21st October 2024; “Confidence with Neurodiversity”.

‘Everyone has strengths and struggles. There are some things we find easy and some that are a little more challenging. In this course, we explore neurodiversity and the different ways in which we all process information, and why you should feel confident about learning in whatever way works best for you.’ Source: Dekko comics website

Open space across from our building for movement breaks.

DIFFERabled is offering this free four week course for neurodivergent young people, from late primary to all secondary years. Each young person and their parent / carer can attend the course which looks at how neurodivergent students can struggle in school and provides some understanding of how they can use neurodiverse strengths to implement different ways of learning.

Our office is a small welcoming space, with designated areas for staff and visitors. We can host up to four young people with accompanying adult. If you are coming along, please let us know of any requirements you or your person have (you can share a communication passport with us or we can have a chat prior to the event) and we will work with you to arrange suitable accommodations e.g. lights off, a quiet learning space, stimming, sensory toys etc.

We have access to a nice green space opposite our building, in the grounds of Kelvin College. We encourage you to use this space if a movement break is needed. For health and safety reasons, and in order to keep a calm environment for others, we cannot allow running in the office.

Clover - our therapy dog.

Our Therapy dog, Clover, is usually present at these sessions to help provide a calming environment, however please do let us know if you have any allergies etc and we’ll arrange for Clover not to be at your session. We keep Clover on a lead in the office. She likes a wee pat on the head, which people are welcome to do in break times, but we ask that Clover is left alone during the course itself.

If you would like to join the course, please contact Helen Gibson on: helendifferabled@gmail.com

Please note that the adult is responsible for their child at all times during the course, including if they leave the office.
